Yesterday, my girlfriends and I gathered around to celebrate our friend Valisha and her husband Trel becoming homeowners! It’s been a while since we’ve gotten together and in honor of the #Phillips1stAnnualDayParty I decided to create some tasty snacks for the group. I debated what to create because knowing my friends, our quick gatherings turn into an all-day affair. With that said, I wanted something that would be quick to make, filling, tasty and budget friendly!
I settled on three items – white queso, 7 layer dip and individual strawberry shortcakes.I found the recipes on Pinterst and each of the recipes are attached. They are very straightforward and require light cooking, a plus if you’re short on time.
The seven layer dip was a big hit so I wanted to share my secret to making this oh-so-tasty treat!
- 16 ounces refried beans
- 1 package taco seasoning
- 1 cup guacamole
- 1 (8 ounce) container sour cream
- 1 cup chunky salsa
- 1 cup shredded Mexican blend cheese
- ½ bunch of green onions, sliced
- 10 (9 ounce) plastic tumblers
In this recipe you basically just layer all of the ingredients on top of each other. My secret to the delicious taste is the taco seasoning that I use. I love Taco Bell’s taco seasoning packets! Growing up, we always used Old El Paso, but I found Taco Bell’s seasoning while shopping one day and I haven’t turned back since. I used Pace Mild Salsa because I wasn’t how spicy everyone likes their food. I further modified the recipe by not using olives because I’m not really a fan of them and leaving off the tomatoes on top because I felt that it was a bit redundant with the salsa there.
I purchased the tumblers for the 7 layer dip and the containers for the Strawberry Shortcake from the Dollar Tree. The containers for the Strawberry Shortcake are actually called “Water Glasses,” but they were so cute and perfect for my little desserts. Both can be found in the party section.
It was so much fun to hang out with my friends in our new normal… kids walking and crawling around, enjoying new chapters in our lives and still having a great time. As you can see, we all enjoyed every moment.
Congrats to the Phillips on their new home! Here’s to the first of many gatherings!
